Darlene Piane began dancing at the age of four. As a young dancer, Darlene trained with Shirley Marley, Tatiana Dokoudovska, Harding Dorn, Buster Cooper, Paul Chambers, Cliff Kirwin and Dick Pond. She began her teaching career at the age of fourteen. For the past thirty-four years, she has continued to teach tap, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, dance team, cheerleading and musical theater. Darlene’s choreography in shows like Nunsense, Mame, Fiddler on the Roof, Godspell, Gypsy, Bye Bye Birdie and Showcase, has been showcased at numerous community centers and schools all over Kansas City including Rockhurst, St. Teresa’s, Barstow, Pembroke, St. Thomas More, St. Elizabeth’s and Pioneer Trail Junior High. Darlene created and directed the Barstow High School Knight Starz dance team. Under her direction, the team won four national championships, produced two national champion solo winners and won countless awards. Many of her former high school dancers have continued dancing on college teams at Stanford, College of Charleston and Harvard. Through working with Darlene in dance, music, drama and audition preparation, students have experienced much success performing in leading roles and chorus parts at Starlight Theatre, Theater in the Park, national commercial spots, television series, and working on feature films. Darlene’s film credits include In Cold Blood and The Girl Who Cheated. At Starlight Theatre, she performed in numerous productions such as Music Man, The Wizard of Oz, State Fair and Bye Bye Birdie, working with stars such as Tommy Tune, Sandy Duncan, John Davidson, Dom DeLuise, Bert Parks and Connie Stevens.
